So here’s the thing about me: I’m a reasonably healthy chick… Really. I swear. I try to eat my veggies, drink my wine one glass at a time, and go for long walks in the afternoon…
But also, I have a thing for a good hamburger.
Once or twice a month, I’ll get an insatiable yearning for a big, juicy beef patty — on a grilled brioche bun, if possible — oozing with cheese, topped just right with the classic LTM, and don’t forget the pickle.
When that happens, nothing but a burger will satisfy.
Lately, though, I’ve realized I’ve fallen into a bit of a rut. Whenever the urge strikes, I always circle back to my main squeeze: Local Roots — a best-kept secret in the burger department here in the ‘Noke — or sometimes Burger in the Square. And while those favorites are **fabulous,** I figured it was time to mix things up a bit. Because let’s be honest… There are plenty of fish in the sea, and plenty of succulent hamburger-steaks in the Star City.
So begins a quest of epic proportions.
Starting today, I’m going to eat a hamburger every day for 14 days straight.
Yes, you read that right. That’s two full weeks of burger-noshing in a row. Each day, I’ll try a different Roanoke restaurant’s iteration. I’ll start with some of the usual suspects: Blue 5, Beamer’s, Burger in the Square, Jack Brown’s, Martin’s. Then I’ll begin branching out. Along the way, I’ll be asking friends and acquaintances and random strangers on the street to point me in the direction of their favorite Roanoke burger, and I aim to find the best.
I’ll leave a daily review here, for those brave hamburger-hunters who are on the quest, too. Think of it like a dropped clue to the Holy Grail of Hamburgers.
See you tomorrow.
(P.S. Have a suggestion for the perfect burger? Leave me a comment! Look forward to hearing from you …)
